Jets Team Report (The Sports Xchange)
March 5th, 2008 · No Comments
The Jets wasted little time in making dramatic changes to their roster once free agency opened.
Left guard Alan Faneca was pursued heavily, and agreed to a five-year, $40 million deal. Not only does that fill a huge hole on the Jets’ line—left guard was a disaster last year after disgruntled Pete Kendall was traded during training camp—but Faneca is a veteran presence who should help left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson develop.
The right side of the line also received an upgrade when Damien Woody was given a five-year deal to supplant tackle Anthony Clement. Woody, a longtime guard, was moved outside for the final month of the season in Detroit last year and flourished.
The changes are arguably even more drastic on the defensive side of the ball.
